If you can’t type certain characters (e.g., # @ | \) with the Option / Alt Key in the terminal, follow the steps below.
💻 Desktop
📱 iOS
- In Preferences, open the Terminal page.
- In the Terminal settings section, disable Use Option as Meta key.
- Open Settings.
- In the Keyboard section, turn off Use Option as Meta key.
This solution allows you to enter characters using Option +, but will prevent you from using any Meta + shortcuts in CLI apps that support them. It's not yet possible to map Meta to any other key other than Option.

I can't enter "pipe" for example in any terminal i am connected on.
The option "Use Option as meta key" is DISABLED.
Very problematic for a paid user
This solution doesn't work. Termius Version 9.2.0 (9.2.0) macOS 14.5 (23F79). Option: Use Option as Meta key is disabled, and I am still unable to use special characters such as | or @, which I need to keep copying and pasting from other places in order to use. When I press the key "option" shows up (arg: )
The same goes for me (can't enter pipe) for a few days [macOS 14.6 (23G80) / Termius 9.2.0 (9.2.0)]
Edit: I opened a request in my account and they told me they are working on a patch and there will be a fix for that problem in a new release of Termius.
How can I roll-back to an older version of Terminus on Mac??
Same here. Makes it more or less useless in a lot of situations...
OSX 14.5, Termius Version 9.2.0 (9.2.0)

This is not working for 9.2.0.

Just got Termius installed on the Mac and the pipe key ( | , option+7) does not work. I searched the Prefences and noticed that there is a setting for Use Option as Meta key under the Terminal tab.
Just disable that option and the pipe key will work again, which makes the Termius terminal useful. Now it’s time to explore more!
